Claude Cowork for teams: an agency guide

Last updated: July 2026

As a Claude AI agency, we're most often asked to stand Cowork up across a whole team rather than for a single power user. This guide is written from that delivery perspective — programmes and guardrails, not just product features.

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agentic desktop agent: Claude working with your files, apps and connectors to produce finished deliverables. It's the knowledge-work counterpart to Claude Code, and it's the tool most teams adopt first.

What Cowork means for a whole team

At team scale the value isn't a single clever output — it's the repetitive, multi-step work that quietly eats hours: month-end reconciliation, proposal and deck production, data clean-up, file organisation, recurring reports. Anthropic's May 2026 data shows this is where Cowork is used: a third of sessions are business-process operations and a sixth content creation, with software development a distant third.

Running a Cowork rollout

The playbook we run is pilot, enable, measure, scale. Pick one or two high-frequency workflows, wire the connectors they need, set permission modes and Global Instructions, and prove the time saved before widening access. Turning the workflows that land into Skills and scheduled tasks is what compounds the return.

  • Pilot: one or two high-frequency workflows in Manual mode.
  • Enable: connectors, Global Instructions, Skills for the team.
  • Measure: baseline the time saved before you scale.
  • Scale: widen access and add scheduled/automated tasks.

Connectors and guardrails

Governance is the part teams underestimate. Cowork only touches the files and folders you grant, but a team rollout still needs deliberate permission modes, least-privilege folder access, and — for Enterprise — connectors provisioned centrally through your identity provider. One correction worth making on the way through: Cowork is not Max-only — all paid desktop plans include it. On hardware, the desktop app uses a local virtualisation sandbox for local-file and computer-use tasks (Anthropic documents the requirements per operating system), while scheduled and remote tasks run server-side — something we factor into device planning for your team.

Engaging the agency

We take a team from decision to daily practice: strategy, connector and workflow design, security and governance, then hands-on training. The training is delivered with our partner Rye Smith of Spruik, Australia's Claude Ambassador. Meet the trainers or see the cities we serve.

Frequently asked questions

Can an agency roll out Claude Cowork across our team?

Yes — that's the core of what we do. A team rollout covers workflow selection, connector setup, permission and governance controls, Skills and scheduled tasks, and staff training, so adoption is safe and it sticks.

Is Claude Cowork Max-only or does it need special hardware?

Two separate things. On pricing, it's not Max-only — desktop Cowork is included in every paid plan (only the web and mobile beta is Max-first). On hardware, the desktop app runs a local virtualisation sandbox for local-file and computer-use tasks — Anthropic documents the requirements for each operating system — while scheduled and remote tasks run on Anthropic's servers. Check Anthropic's install guide for your OS.

How long does a Cowork rollout take?

A focused pilot on one or two workflows can show measurable time saved within a couple of weeks; widening across a team with governance and training in place is typically a few weeks more, depending on connectors and compliance needs.
